    Hi all,

I just encountered this problem with my pioneer DVD 106D. For some reason i get a power calibration error trying to burn a CD-R (no problems with burning a DVD). A googled and and it seems the problem is either caused by bad media or a dirty lens. I've ruled out bad media since i can burn Cd-r's on my scsi CD-R (only 4x though), has anyone used one of those CD/DVD lens cleaners with sucess?

    Thanks

Try unplugging some of your other drives from your PSU - I got this error when my PSU was straining to provide power to my system. A new PSU was the ultimate solution.

Have you tried burning at a lower speed? I get this error when I am buring to a DVD-R at 4x. If I switch to 2x it works fine.

What brand is the media? Some drives are better at reading crappy media than others. My Pioneer burner will only burn crappy cheap (DVD) media at 1x, works fine with quality media at 4x.
That said I've never had a problem with CD-R's (with the exception of a single 4x CD-RW disc)

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm using Imation Cd-R's from Argos, been using them over the past year and i never had a coaster yet(i reckon i've burned about 500 discs error free). The same Cd-R's burn fine in my scsi burner so i don't think it's the media or maybe my pioneer stopped liking imation Cd-r's????

It doesn't matter what speed i burn a Cd r at, nero gets to 7% then does a spin up 3 times then i get the error powe calibration error.

I haven't tried plugging out the items from the PSU yet but will give that a go and see what happens.

Weird. I've used those imation CD-R's for ages too - but i haven't tried them in my DVD burner, as I have a separate CD burner that's much faster for CD-R's. (asus crw4012a)
