aghh this is kinda annoying me and despite a (admittedly short) search on Google i can't get my USB stick to work at USB 2.0 speeds.

I've got WinXP Home and it has SP1a installed (which i thought would fix it).

    any advice?

    TIA

    ...

usb1.1 hubs are only capable of operating at usb1.1 speeds.
plug the memory key directly into the computer if you want to unlock its full speed.

Maybe a dumb question, but does your motherboard support usb 2? If it does go to the manufacturers website and download the driver. Install the driver and see what happens. If you've done this already, go into control panel and uninstall all the usb controllers. Restart the computer and allow windows to redetect the drivers.

I believe USB Sticks can't actually/physically run at full USB 2.0 speed (USB 2.0 Keys have the logic to run at those speeds but the key itself is not fast enough), I think.

The won't run at USB 2.0's maximum of 60MB/sec (480Mbit) but you'll get better than USB 1.1's 1.875-1.5MB/sec.

I usually get 5 to 6 MB/sec on the USb 2.0 sticks in work as oppose to 1MB/sec on a USB 1 one.

hmmm. i just assumed it did. its a new Shuttle with an Intel 865 chipset. i'll have a look and see if there's additional drivers needed. it doesn't seem to work on the laptop i'm using at the moment - a fairly new Inspiron.
