I recently purchased a second hand PC. It has a newish motherboard. It came wit a floppy drive. When i copied my excel file off the floppy onto my desktop i had no problems although it took a while to see into the floppy so icould copy. Anyway everytime i now go to save the file back to the floppy its give me a message 'cannot detect device' or 'Device not ready'. Its odd becasue i can copy from the stupid 'device' but when it comes to putting files onto it it will not let me. I tried numerous floppy disls and even tried a few floppy drives. Anyone able to solve the mystery of the STUPID stone age device???

Floppy disks have a write protect device similar to VHS tapes. If the little metal sensor is jammed in the drive it will appear as if the disk is write protected. It won't stop you reading from the disk but it will prevent you from writing to it. Try taking the drive out and giving it a good shake it might loosen the offending sensor. Make sure the write protect tabs on your disks are all set to closed ie write enabled.

I tried the shaking part but no luck. Yeah i know about the write protection so thats not the problem. It works fine in my other PC. Do i need to update its drivers as they are 3 years old.
