Rake Back

Lets take these example figures: Limit 2/4, playing 1000 hands a week with a win rate of 1 big bet per 100 hands.

Win amount per week is 40
Win amount per year is 2k
Amount paid in rake per year is 2K (using the approximation that win amount = rake)

Getting 20% of this back is an extra $400 per year which is huge. If you are a good aggressive player and can push small edges then the rake really hurts your win rate, you pay a huge % of that small edge to the rake. The existence of a rake will turn a play with a small +EV into one that is –EV.

Where do I get the approximation Win amount = Rake Amount?
Well looking at my poker tracker stats this is what it comes to for me. I know of one other poker tracker database that shows the same thing.

What factors will cause the Win Amount to be different from the Rake amount?
The obvious one is if you are a losing player. Then the amount you pay in Rake is much greater than your win rate. Also if you an ultra tight player lets say you only play pocket aces then as you will contest very few pots the amount you pay in Rake is low compared to you win rate.

Many poker sites have an affiliate program, this includes party poker, empire and gaming club. The purpose of these programs is to get more players on their site. The give a commission to their affiliates which is a % of the rake of each new player they bring in. As an attempt to get players, affiliates will give a player back a % of his rake if he joins a site under his name. As it is a buyers market usually the affiliates give back 20/25% of the rake to the player and keep 5%. Some sites they have rules stopping you setting up another account to get a rake back deal, they consider that they already have your business.

I believe that tournament entry fees are also returned as part of the rake back deal, but I am not 100% sure of this.

If you are playing poker online in any serious way then I consider it a must to join a rake back program. It could save you thousands and for most players will out weigh any sign up bonus they receive.

    interesting
i presume its too much to hope victor chandler has such a scheme...
i never really think about the rake, which is probably a bad idea
do most people find that the rake is roughly equivalent to their winnings?

Interesting idea - I've done a quick scout around for this deal and can't find anyone offering a rakeback scheme with software/casino I like. Can you point me in the direction of one of these affiliates?

If you are a member of a site it may be difficult to get a rake back. The idea is to bring in new customer and so if you are a customer already why give you a deal?

To find a affiliate for a site try doing a search on the 2+2 "internet gambling" forum. If that does not bring up anything post a message asking for an affiliate to which ever site you are looking for. Empire is the most common one asked for.

I think it is worth changing where you play to get the lowest rake.

I noticed lots of people asking but no replies giving links to affiliates which provided the scheme. Not much point resurrecting a topic that no-one had any interest in answering a few weeks ago. Any chance you could let us know what affiliate you signed up through?

try http://www.winningonlinepoker.com/rakeback.htm for party and empire, there are more but i am not sure where. try googling "poker rack back" or some such.

the above site, is just something i stumbled across so i dont know if its legit, but the chap who runs the site is a regular 2+2er.

    hope it helps.

I think 2+2 have rule against advertising in posts.

Most people who ask for an affiliate will get a number of PM's with offers. I have the 2+2 user names of 3 Empire affiliates I will PM you later with the user names and you can get in touch with them by sending them a 2+2 PM. After that you can decide which is the best offer.

Thats a 50-50 deal there and only when you rake more then $50. Not quite what was being touted in the first post but its a nice touch. Our view has never been to make money from this, we're just keen to give Irish poker (particularly the younger, new generation) somewhere to form around. This board, our site, our tournies and our online league. I think the deal we've struck with The Gaming Club is a good one and our offer of an online league with prizes can be expanded if we find things are going ok but in the mean time I think we're giving a fair bit back to the community as it is!! :)
