Can anyone recommend a good wireless braodband company that is reliable and is available in dublin.

What are the download speeds like on Irish Broadband?

As you may have seen from numerous other posts, IBB have a pretty poor service and download speeds. The only positive is no download cap, but it is hard to exceed the cap when you can only get 90-180bits per sec!

With the exception of Mutant Fruit and some business customers who have posted on boards, the general view of IBB is pretty bad.

I'm on Breeze home 512 with 20:1 contention
The best I tend to get is 180-250 bps, very rarely get to 512 and never for any sustained period of time. When you query this with their support you are told that that the current speed is 'good' and that there is nothing wrong given the contention rates etc etc. Which is usually just a process of fobbing you off etc.

If you have the option of digiweb or other bb/dsl alternatives I would seriously consider them ahead of ibb until they get their act together

Are you positive these are the speeds you get?
    A 512 connection is 512kb.

There is alot of general confusuin between Kb,KB and bps

Yep - I know what 512 is and I know I'm not getting it. I don't even get 512 to the test 25meg.iso on the IBB ftp site.

As we speak I'm getting in the range of 93-130Kb or 7-13KB pulling that iso off ftp://mon.irishbroadband.ie

I accept that it is 8:50pm so I'm up against plenty of BT and other P2P hogs but that kind of speed is typical of any time of the day or night and any day of the week. Occassionaly the speed gets up to 400Kb plus but rarely for long (minutes rather than hours)

I've tried on different machines, taking out/off firewalls etc, different OS' etc and still consistenly slow. I'm told I have a great signal........ :p

As I type this the avg speed has collapsed to 45-70Kb

Anyone out there have any suggestions?

This is what my IBB connection is like to SIAC, Clondalkin. I have never got download speeds greater that 40Kb and never as much as you lot are quoting.

My suggestion is if you can go to another service provider do. IBB service and support are absolute crap. :o

Downloading their 10Mb iso file at 14K/sec - total pants

Turned out that my equipment was faulty. Nice guy Eamonn from IBB arranged an engineer to replace my kit and since then speeds haven't been bad at all (give or take a few glitches here n there).
All in all, speeds seem to have improved dramatically and I am now fairly happy with it. The only problem is, i'm just always waiting for it to go down again.
