I use a program called magix to home record music. However they only let you encode 20 mp3's before you have to pay extra money or something.

Can anyone recommend a good program that can encode wav. files maybe that is free?

dBpowerAMP. You can rip at a variety of different bitrates and it's handy to use. Get the Music Converter

Exact Audio Copy with LAME encoder installed is all you need and it's the best out there, but it takes a bit of getting use to.

but it does do with it initials say

I use EAC for quality, but I'd recommend CDex too, because it's fast and easy to use.
