From BBC + cunning picture edit....
Jessie Wallace to be 'new face of BBC'
12:24 BST, Friday 6th August 2004 -- by Kris Green

EastEnder Jessie Wallace - who plays Kat Slater in the BBC soap - has been acclaimed as the new face of the BBC in a bid to boost flagging ratings, the Mirror reports today.

Wallace has agreed to star in a prime-time drama and BBC chiefs have told her that she could become one of their biggest stars.

A BBC insider told the paper: "Jessie has been told that she will be taken care of by the BBC and she has a bright future."

Wallace has already said that she will not quit EastEnders and has also decided to return from maternity leave after only four months to continue her work on other drama projects.

Her exit from Albert Square has already been filmed, and producers have written her out of the show until she returns for filming in January.

"Jessie loves EastEnders and has no plans to leave at the moment but she is very keen on exploring other acting opportunities. EastEnders is a big commitment and any other projects have to be pencilled in well in advance,"
    the insider continued.

"She will be keen to get stuck back into EastEnders. But both BBC bosses and Jessie are keen to try her in different roles. She was in talks to appear in other BBC projects and they will go forward after the baby is born

Thats the best I've ever seen her! :)

    Mike.

Do we really need more of her on TV? I wish the BBC would cop on :(

I think she'd be better suited as the face of pedigree chum.

...she used to be sexy in a cheap tarty way but those days are long behind her(unless you're into BBW's) - Chaz Dingle fulfills that role now! Anyways, what is it with Itv/bbc et al trying to pimp actors as the face of the channel? It never works IMO. Look at Ross Kemp/Michelle Collins/Sarah Lancaster etc etc., none of them ever made anything good since leaving the soaps yet they're all on megabuck contracts. The Americans piss all over the Brits when it comes to serious drama/action series, especially HBO.
