Does anyone know what are the maximum lengths that either a composite video or s-video cable can be run over?

Well, there are many different opinions on the max lenghts before noticable degredation. Some say you can go up to 50m with S-video, others say the video signal badly degrades over 10m. Personally, I've used 15m S-video cables with no noticable signal loss. Composite ran over shielded CT100 cable should be good for much longer distances. Some say 300m, others 100m.

For really long video runs, I would recommend using an s-video (or composite) over CAT5 system. You can send a signal for about 1km and boost it if required using these systems, which are fairly inexpensive.

What sort of lenghts are you thinking about?
