i'm screwed

i am a ucd student with the following problem

i was on campus yesterday, sitting down with a guy i know (not a student) he had put a small amount of cannabis down beside me, then he saw security coming and told me to hide it. without thinking i pocketed it. the security guy saw me, threatened to call the police if i didnt hand over me student card and the cannabis immediately. i had no choice really cause there were 2 of them and they had all escape routes covered, so i did. the other guy told the security guys it was his but they ignored him. The college registrar is probably going to be informed on monday. the registrar will either call the police and have me arrested (which means up to €381 fine and a formal warning which means i can never go to american, australia or asia or do lots of other things - LIKE GET A JOB), expel me, suspend me, fine me and or put a mark on my college record.

either way i'm screwed, the parents are very religious and anti drugs - if they find out, i'll be kicked out of the house straight away and i cant afford accommodation

also i'm sitting repeat exams next week which i will fail so i'm screwed from that perspective also.

anyone know anyone this happened to? any info would be great.

i'm under so much sress right now i cant really deal with it, i dont know what to do, i can eat, sleep or STUDY.

As far as I know the police don't care as much about hash these days. If they find someone on the street with less than a quarter and not wrapped in tin-foil they just confiscate it and take your name. You could offer to take a drug test (that is if you haven't taken anything in the last 3 or 4 months) and make your friend formally admit what he did. (It would work in court) If worst comes to worst take it to court.

to be honest i think you need to relax a bit there. you said yourself that it wasnt yours and despite the security guards ignoring your friend's comments once he's willing to be honest about it it'll be fine.
i also go to UCD and a friend of mine was caught with hash on him during the year but all he got was a warning.
i understand that you're freaked about it but i honestly think it wont be anywhere near as bad as you think it'll be.

And if you're ever caught in a similar situation again, don't hand over anything to campus security. They have no legal rights to detain or search you (other than citizen's arrest which leaves them out on a pretty high and narrow ledge from a legal standpoint). Should they decide to call the cops, just swallow the hash. You cannot be prosecuted for being under the influence of drugs, just for posession. Since the drugs would have been injested (and unless it was a fairly hefty nodge you'd be coherrant anyway) you can't be taken under the drugs acts of this country.

In this situation, never, ever, hand over the stuff to the campus security. Under the rules of the college, they can ask to see your student card, but that's all they can do. Odds are, the guys took your friend's nodge and smoked it back in their little shed. I wouldn't worry too much about this, in fairness, cannabis is fairly socially acceptable now and unless you're talking a number of ounces worth of it, the cops aren't interested. More than likely you won't hear anything about this, or at worst you'll get a polite letter asking you not to carry drugs on your person in college again. It doesn't do the college any favours to report the incident to the law as it'll just damage their image in the press/with the local guards.

a bit of a parro buzz going on there.you are grand i was talking to a guy who was stung rolling in the jacks of the student bar. all that happened is they gave him a verbal warning. ucd don't want the police involved it just looks bad. and as for informing your parents ucd considers you an adult and will treat you as such

Relax you will probably just get a warning! It is highly unlikely that you would be expelled or anything!

I would repeat what Sleepy says about college security, all they can take off of you is your id card, they have no right to search you etc.

I agree with the other guys here, just try and relax. I know you're probably thinking of all the worst things that could happen, but just try and relax, it won't be too bad (unless it's a huge amount of hash). The college won't want to bring in the gardai, and will probably just give you a warning.

If all else fails break down in the registrars office blaiming your daliance in the shady world of smokin' on the Student Fatiuge syndrome. 'All I wanted was to do well and pass my exams, sniffle, and be a credit to my family and this, sniffle, institution'........
Seriously though, I can bet you're not the first, less the millionth to first that this has happened to and I'm sure you'll laugh about it in a couple of weeks !

Dont worry, there is not a chance the college will tell your parents about this, they'd be on some serious shaky ground. Assuming you're over 18 that is.
