Okay I was browsing the web and there was this popup, i tried to close it but it downloaded whatever it was onto my pc anyways, lukcily my firewall blocked it, but it looks like the program over wrote notepad.exe on my pc.

Now this means i can't actually use it...

is there any easy way to fix this and get notepad back?
    any help is appreciated

hey, I just took a look around and apparently this worm saves a copy of the original notepad.exe as "notedpad.exe" in the same directory as the oringal....do a search for that file on your PC and just rename it back to notepad.exe.

It might not actually be this worm but worth a try.
    Hope this helps.

okay I found the original, it was renamed to notpad.
I renamed it to notepad so atleast thats working. I also deleted the notepad.exe that was installed, but i'm guessing the worm probably installed more copies of itself, is there any way to get rid of them as i don't want ALL the files on my pc being randomly deleted :)

thanks for the info to help me get notepad working atleast guys :)

avg must have cleaned the virus from notepad.exe after warning you that it was infected, this must have corrupted the notepad.exe file, so you had to replace it with the original

just run a full scan, and stay clear of those sites :p

ya serves me right for trying to get a crack for a program hehe, i'll stay well away :p

err avg didn't do anything. I found the file manually by browsing the system32 folder. I also manually deleted notepad.exe after it was corrupted But i'll run the avg scan to be safe.
