It varies from emulator to emulator. But saying that, you'd get away with a Pentium II 400 Mhz 64MB RAM if you wanted to use some older console emulators... The newer consoles need a better computer after that... You should prolly be more specific with what emulators you were intending to use.

As Kennet said, you really don't need that much. I used to use an arcade emulator (sorry, can't rememeber the name) on my 486. Worked fine.

I've always toyed with the idea of making an arcade cabinet and putting an old television in their with another computer hosting my collection of ROMs with proper joysticks et al. I currently use a Mac Powerbook G3 for my emulators but I want to buy a cheap computer for the purpose of emulation. Now I'm sure I could get away with using a P1 MMX to run my NES/Mastersystem games and most of my SNES games but what would I need (Processor, Motherboard (Built in USB) and Graphics card) to run the likes of Killer Instinct, Metal Slug, King of Fighters '00 and other recent MAME games? On that note, has anyone ever built one of these before on the boards? Thanks

    Theres one in the stickies.

Perfect PC would be 1ghz 64 MB video(on board be fine) 128 MB ram (256 perfect)

That would play everything inc Killer Instinct and all latest arcade games.
