9800Pro problems

I have a 9800pro running at Xt speeds 2 problems-

1- When playing generals very it hangs for about ten seconds then continue's as normall also what has started to happen in the last three days is again with generals the whole lot crashes and gives me a Error message " due to either viruses or overheating or failed hardware " and that is it restart generald play for another 2 hours and i get the same message again.

So what i have done is installed a extra 3 80mm fans in the area of 9800pro - temps inside the case are 25 -
The Cpu has been running clocked and stable at 3.4Ghz for the past couple of weeks - clocked it back to 2.8Ghz temp 24 idle
The 9800pro flashed it back to Pro and orginal default clock speeds Core and mem.
Reinstalled the Artic Cooler cleaned re-applied termal paste.

2- Second problem i think this is more a Compatibilpy issue with windows and catalyst drivers anyway-

    OS- Windows 2000 Advanced Server

When i install the catalyst drivers latest ones of 3d guru works fine no problems what so ever- But if i reboot and try to login back in at the CTRL+ALT+DEL screen it hangs for a split second you see it loading personal settings and then it goes back to the loging screen.
Boot into safemode remove the catalyst drivers and reboot back into OS works fine reinstall the Catalyst drivers - but if i reboot without removing the drivers first i have the same problem again.

I have a Copy of windows Xp pro wich i should get next week to try and see if i have the same problems.

I'm also thinking that the first problem might be caused by the PSU the fans are blowing quite hot air when you feel the back of the case- While inside is fine cold air everywere

Psu- I know don't tell me it is a Qtech 450 gold plated i have to get another one soon the fans are blowing hot air.

Have any of you guys come across similiar issue's??

Why in **** are you running Windows 2000 advanced server on a games machine?

anyways, i'd blame that qtec ;)

you've got lots of power hungry and overclocked components, it isn't going to be able to drive them all under load.

    Aye

I think it just might be the qtech - will order a zalman today have to check the funds first :)

I use this server mostly as a file server and installed the GFX card and generals to test it with games- a well just have to wait for my Xp pro copy and try it then.

If you want reasonably cheap but reliable, try a fortron. Apparently they are capable of outputting much more power than they are rated for. (i.e. the 350W one is good for 400W+)

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Yep Stephen is right. The Fortron's are the same as the Zalman's as well, just a bit cheaper :)

Got the Zalman 400W myself last year - great PSU

What do you guys think of this one
    Zalman ZM400B-APS 400W PSU (CA-001-ZA£57.50

The qtech is meant to be 450W - But i have a sh*te load of stuff running off it check the sig that is not even mentioning the 2 cold catholdes 4x80mm fans and other little controllers for the fans :)

Qtecs never output anything near to what they say they are supposed to.

I have similar problem with Generals and 9800pro, game hangs PC after loading level and Far Cry just goes to black screen after loading level. I have tried card on its own with a 550w PSU and all other components e.g. sound card removed and it made no difference I can run Call Of Duty and most other 3D Games at full resolution on a Dell with a 250wtt PSU so I don’t think the PSU is the problem but a issue with the games, However I would be interested to know if you solve your problem.

    P4 2.8 1gb DDR ram XP Pro SP1
    Audigy 2 Sound Card

Well the latest ATI beta 4.9 driver seems to have sorted everything out for me. all games now running fine, no more black screens or system hanging.
and all on a little old 250w PSU  :D

You may want to get more power than that for your PC
