    Hi,
Are there are devices in existance that will allow me to transfer data(images) from my memory card (smartmedia/Xd etc.) to an internal harddrive and then later transfer them to my PC? I'm going on a trip for a couple of weeks and I'm not going to have a PC with me to transfer my pictures onto when my card gets full so I'd like some alternative.

    Any pointers would be appreciated.
    Bacchus

Kanguru Solutions today announced the release of a low cost 2.2 Gigabyte hard drive that is smaller than a credit card.

Theres a few, expensive though. Amazon have a selection from 20gb up to 80gb and will take a few types of card.

This one even doubles as a mp3 player. Looks like your out of luck if your using XD cards.

    Hi Bacchus,

I have had the same issue with going abroad recently, am not sure where you are heading. but the cheapest option is that there seems to be plenty of shops that copy the contents of a digital camera to CD for you. I recently had to do this and the average price was about €5 with no limit on the maount of pictures.

Just one thing that I did find bad, was there was Kodak kiosk in Barcelona that I used, but they would only allow 120 pictures onto a disk, and that cost €7. It made things awkward cos I had to only copy over 120 out of 150 and then go in and delete the 120 that I had put on disk manually, as my memory was full and there wasn't any other place around me at the time.

    Thanks for the speedy replies.

I'll look into the possiblity of copy my pictures onto a CD. I'll be passing through several cities on the trip so I'm sure I'll be able to find somewhere that will provide that service. Btw, I'm travelling across Canada.

I also like that Vosonic X'S Drive Pro 40GB (the one that doubles as a MP3 player). I'v being meaning to buy an MP3 player recently and it could be a good "kill to birds with one stone option.

I doubt that you will have any trouble in big cities. They were all over New York and Boston last year, so I am sure that cities in Canada are the same.

Aye, the big cities should be fine and if you find some internet cafes I doubt it would be any problem to stick in a card reader and copy the picutures off and burn the to cd if the camera stores are a bit pricy :)
