Problem with MMDS reception/Chorus

    Hi all

    Consider the following scenario

    a) TV. Preset 1 - RTE1
    Preset 2 - RTE2
    Preset 3 - Chorus MMDS - Analogue - 12 channels on this
    Preset 4 - TG4
    Preset 5 - TV3

    b) VCR - similar channel setup.

Any of you who have Chorus MMDS will know full well that while you're watching BBC1 on your MMDS channel, you cannot tape something that's on, say, BBC2. However, you should be able to watch BBC1 on MMDS and tape something on RTE1. Similarly, you should be able, I'd think, to watch RTE1 and tape something off the MMDS channel, assuming you've got the MMDS box set to the right station?

    So far, so good?

Right - we had a problem at the house with a poor signal, and we now have a 'toggle' on the MMDS box using the A/B button on the remote control. You can either watch, Presets 1, 2, 4 and 5 (the 'terrestrials) with the toggle at position A, or if you press A/B you can watch Preset 3 (the...um...'extra-terrestrials! :D )

You can see where this is going...If I watch something at 7.30 on RTE and want to then flick to UTV I have to change Preset on the Telly, flick the A/B toggle and then (assuming the MMDS box is at UTV) I can watch the show. And if I want to flick back to RTE I have to go through the whole process again.

If we introduce the video into the equation, you can see I'm in a position that I can't watch a Movie on RTE and tape one on BBC because the toggle thing means that only one signal comes in.

I'm certain that my setup shouldn't be like this, and have had a phone conversation or two with the folks at chorus, who have been less than helpful. They say you can only tape what you're watching - a point I take up to 'you can only tape what you're watching on MMDS', but surely it shouldn't impinge on my terrestrial channels? Ever?

if anybody has any knowledge on this, can they post it here. I'm at the point where there seems piss all point in having a Video at all - if you can only tape what you're watching no matter what, then I might as well dump the thing.

yes your right in what your ' re saying the only way to resolve it is to get rid of the a/b switch and ask them for a combiner but if you have poor reception on your rte the combiner will make it worse which is why they probably put it in ! why do ' nt you just get their digital service which is much better and go scart to the video for taping that and put the rte in thru the rf on the video !
