Gaming problems - Video issues

I'm having problems during gameplay on all the following games:

    Far Cry
    No one lives forever 2
    Call of Duty
    Armed and dangerous

Basically during game play I'm experiencing slowdown/jitter on my screen. Here's my rig:

    Win XP Pro
    P4 3.06
    Sapphire 9800 pro 128MB
    512MB DDR ram 3200
    Abit BE7 Raid motherboard.
    Audigy 2 soundcard

I've swopped Ram and GC with a friends hardware - no difference. I've rebuilt my machine on another HD - no difference. I've also added in another 512MB ram to make 1GB - this made little or no difference. My own thoughts are it could be the motherboard. Can anyone advise me what to do before I have to fork out for a new motherboard.

Guessing there is something running in the backround in your OS?? Or there could be some sort of bottleneck somewhere.. I know I am not being much help but you have checked most of what you can.

I don't think it could be anything running the background as I've just done a completly fresh install (minimum software installed - WinXP pro and drivers). I'll try closing all background applications but I don't think that is the problem.

I'd run Prime95 to check for system stability. Is it just in games you get the lag or in other applictions too. Try running 3dmark03 with no AA or AF I have a very similar system and you should get around 6000.

    P4 3Ghz
    2 sets of Corsair TWINX512-3200LL DDR-DIMM 512MB
    Abit IC7 Mainboard
    Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120GB S-ATA 8MB cache 7200RPM
    Sapphire Radeon 9800 pro
    WinXP Pro

Try disabling AGP fast writes in your BIOS... fixed lots of problems with my Sapphire 9800 pro.

    Try removing the Audigy 2.
If that fixes it, try the Audigy in a different PCI slot.

    Note:
Far Cry will stutter with just 512Mb ram.

NOLF2 & CoD use the Quake3 OpenGL engine. ATi cards are known for occasional "slowdown" in games using this engine.

Are you using the Cat 3.8 or 3.9 betas?

    Tried this.... no difference.

    Tried with 1GB ram - no/little difference.

it's not so much "slowdown". More of a constant jitter...

    Version 4.7
