XP Shut down problem

Recently installed Windows Xp - but it has serious problems with shutting down / going into stand by. If my machine ever shuts down properly ( rarely ) it crashes during the next boot...if I put it into stand-by it crashes.

    Any ideas ?

Start with XP Updates off the net.

What are your machines specs? were you having trouble before you installed XP? What does your machine do when it crashes? Blue screen o Death, memory dumps, sorry, i just forgot my psychic hat today ;)

We need to error code from the blue screen before we can diagnose further.

it'll look something like 0x0000007b or something like that....
