There has been some chat in the threads recently of getting a session together in a central location, poss beers afterwards for anyone staying over.

I'd be in favour of this if we could get a suitable location sorted out....

So, anyone interested, please post here with your rough location & any suggested venue's & if there's sufficitent interest, I'll try to organise something.

    I'm in Cork btw

I guess it would probably be a coarse fishing event (judging by the post breakdown). I'm more a saltie , myself, but I did some coarse fishing when I was younger. The only specimen I have caught is a rudd in a lake in Wexford. I'll try and make it over, wherever it is, but I am pretty busy with work, and buying/closing on new apartment.

    Good on ya jd...

Id suggest coarse as a starter, but if it took off, nothing to stop us varying it - most coarse guys on here dabble in other forms of the sport.

    I'm a coarse fisherman mostly...
From Dublin, I Fish mostly around Mullingar.

As for a 'match' in the traditional sense of the word, I'd personally prefer a bit of craic, catching a few fish, having a laugh.

Yep - not looking for anything serious......not meant to be a competition or anything, just c chance to meet up & try a venue......

    Fer beers afterwards perhaps

if there were a good few of us, a stretch of canal somewhere with a decent head of bream and tench would be the best spot, plenty of room to fish close enough to chat.

Well that's 8 interested so far - I'll leave it for another week & then we can put a list of venue's up & see which is most convenient/attractive.

A Canal would be Ideal Nog - not many in my part of the world, but can you guys get thinking please.

that sounds like what you all are looking for....

    theres a pub there too..
or moyvalley, but you would have a load of losers in barges going up and down.

or there is a nice stretch at hill of downs....

Not sure the canal at mary lynch's would be the best spot,They drained and blocked off the canal there for the motorway bridge and it hasn't been fished by many in the last 12 months.

The canal at hill of the downs is a nice spot and there is a pub there aswell,or the canal at furys isn't a bad spot but as you say there is a llot of barges there.

Agree with Gary here, but for a different reason.

I've had a few good sessions there since that work started and since the canal was opened back up again after it was drained.

I was down there on saturday morning and there wasnt a bite to be had, :( the float never moved. There was a bit of feeding going on in the swim, but they just didnt seem interested in the hookbait. Normally I would have just chalked this up to a bad day, but I was having a chat with another angler that I met on the bank fishing the far end of the stretch and he says that the was having similar. He mentioned that he was talking to other anglers that have fished the area recently and that the bites have all become very shy.

Somewhere central would be a fantastic idea, Westmeath, Longford or Offaly could be some of the areas open for decision, as they are pretty much in the middle of everywhere and have a lot of choice for venue.

The poll closes on the 26 of August- so we'll have a look then. Unless we should bring forward the poll close date?

Well Mullingar seem to be the favourite at the moment -its a flippin long way from Cork, but I'm willing to make the journey.

We'll give the poll until the end of this week if that ok jd & then make a call on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,741 ✭✭✭jd

    Ok then all
    Mullingar seems the favoued location.

    Next question is when.
I take it a weekend is the best.

I dont think that too many people will actually show up to this, but I am still on for it. It may be a bit of a blanker, coarse fishing in october isnt going to be that fantastic.

Maybe a piking session somewhere down there.. theres a few good lakes with a bit of craic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 423 ✭✭Cosworth

I'm up for a bit of piking, haven't done any this year yet so i must get out some time.
