Pc frequently looking for floppy disc

In office here the pc i'm using frequently checks for a floppy in the drive, i'm working with cad on an old enough machine so this checking cause major slow downs of the pc. Anyone have any ideas why it could be doing this? Pc has win98 second eddition Jozi
