    hey there,

my CS clan that i've played for, for the last 2 years has ask me to go to a lan. okay simple so far isn't it?

but there is a few problems.

    1. It's in england.
    2. i'm only 18 and havn't traveled abroad without parents.
    3. how do i mention it to my parents in such a way as i know they'd bring up the whole peadophile thingy?

this is a serious post it's not a troll.

could try get a friend to go with ya, or just lie "i'm meeting up with a girl i met on holidays shes having her 18th...." something like that perhaps

or talk about cs an awful lot in front of them might take the lan more serious then

Forgive me for being blunt here you are 18 !!! If you have a mate thats into gaming get them to go with you. Lans in other countries are great crack. Go and enjoy just keep away from Englander Fast Food its manky (chips with mushy peas and gravy ugh!!!)

Seriously how well do you know these people in the clan, are you the only Irish member? As I said if you have mates that are into gaming try and get them to come along with you. If you are comfortable with these people then just be upfront and confident with your parents.

(Large area network) now it means a gaming network usually- i.e a big game or connection of games with lots of people's computers hooked up within a large room/rooms (as far as I know).

Have you met people off the 'net before?

In which case, mentioning that none of them turned out to be axe murderers/kiddy fiddlers/sword wielding psychopaths et cetera could add a bit of weight to your argument.

They'd be more given to the suggestion if you're going with a friend as well...

Local Area Network, gordon. Your lack of geekdom is showing. Otherwise, you're pretty much on the ball.

You're 18 and therefore of no interest to paedophiles. Also, old enough to do MANY other things, including takign care of yourself in anohter country whether your parents like it or not.

Exactly. You are 18, you're a grown up so just tell them you're going away for a few days to chill out/have fun!

    they'll think he's on drugs then .

Why not just tell them the whole story. Unless they're jerks they're not going to say no. You're 18! You should be going out with your friends and having a laugh, if you'd prefer to do that a LAN (fair play) instead of going out on the piss, what's the problem?

ive never been invited to a LAN (nerd sulk)

    a) tell you folks straight out (they have to let you head off somewhere soon anyway)

    b) bring enough money if you need to leg it you can (which you wont)

    c) go and have a great laugh (enjoy)

Yeah LANs are alright, wouldn't be arsed going to another country for one though.
You get to meet all your kewl CS friends who're really quiet and dull in person. ;)
Definitly bring someone with you though, if not for security reasons - at least you'll have someone to talk to if you find everyone else too dull.
More fun having someone to travel with aswell, sitting around in airport terminals, waiting for taxis... blah blah... extremely boring doing it alone... also if you're not used to checking in, finding your gate, baggage claim etc.. two heads are better than one, so you can relax a bit and not have to be in top-gear all the time.

And now for a response that may actually help the guy.

Just tell em the truth. You are going abroad to a gaming event in England. A lot of other people are going to this... you are legally an adult, and should (hopefully) be able to take care of yourself in the big bad world. Can I assume that this is a public LAN like i21 or similar? If so, you can hedge a much better argument, as it isnt as if you are going to some guy's house in an unknown place...

What you should be worrying about is how you are going to get yourself and your PC there cheaply!

i know my parents wouldnt be too pleased if i said that i wasnt allowed go, but then again they relise i'm 18 and have the right to live my own life....

    Hi Cr3m0,

    Just go, you're 18. Not a child.

I get the feeling that it is not just his parents that are the problem... But for the love of god, you are 18, cut yourself off your mother's apron strings. You are afraid to go abroad alone? It should be fun like..

Ha! Gravy chips with peas!! You can get those in Mullens in Ardee - and if you like, you can get fried onions slung in there as well ....

To the original poster - you are 18. Unless it is a case that your parents would be paying the airfare, they have no say in where you go or what you do and with whom. Tell them you are going up the country or something.

Just say your going to a lan, don't say you were invited. Make out like its a big official thing, an event that your going to.
