With the recent thunder and lightning my router broke, opened it up one of the chip in it poped.
It seems to still connect to the net but the network doesn't work, all 8 led are on where as there should only be 3, one for each pc, and 3 showing activity. Router is a d-link dsl 504.
I dont think it a year old yet so can i just return it to elara under warenty?
Can i claim it from the insurance?
I'm using the iol supplied modem now so the other pc's in the house are without internet, ie. mine, so would like to get it back to how it was asap. I just dont know what my options are.
    Any sugestions appreciated

"acts of god" such as lightning strikes etc are generally not coverd. But its worth a shot.

lightning damage is OOW, and if you rma it, they'll see that it was a surge that did it,.
I reckon you're out of luck.

Did yo break any of the seals on it when you opened it? This would definetly mean no replacment.

Maybe not - I used to work for US Robotics & if we got RMA's that could be ligtening damage, its not worth the hassle of trying to prove it - we just replace the modem - most companies do the same.

My suggestion would be to plead ignorant, phone them & say that the router just stopped connecting, but the lights are still working. Chances are, providing the seal is still intact they'll replace it - no questions asked

Nope. Insurance policies don't normally cover "acts of god" (flood, lightning, hurricane, etc).

Seal, what seal? There wasn't anything to stop me opening it up like a sticker or what ever.
Going to contact them and see about getting it replaced

should be ok then - some of them have a strategically placed sticker to stop people opening them, but if it was a straight opening job, I'd fancy my chances.....

    Good luck

i had a lappy that lew up cause of lightning, tell ur insurance co that
    1. ur roof leaked onto it
    2. u had a powercut and when it came ack on the router went pop
    3. it was stolen

generally speaking if the amount is less than 400 theyll just say send in a reciept and then issue a cheque ull have to pay the first (i think 50) urself so try and get 50 yoyos or whatever added onto the real price
