Lightning strike?

I hope my pc isnt f*****, but i was using it during the storm earlier, it reset about 3 times during this and i lost my net connection twice. Can lightning feck up a pc, i.e. psu, gfx card , router or anything?

Many people (including myself) have had their modems ****ed up.

Yep, same here. It seems when you're plugged into the mains you've layers of protection - circuit breakers etc. but when you're plugged into the phone line you've no protection.

If it turns on, its not damaged. A surge protector woulldn't go astray though. Its always possible that your computer will get damaged due to powersurge, but unlikely.

It seems to be working ok now thank feck. Everywhere here(dundalk) had power flicker on and off a couple of times so that must of caused the reboots.
Im praying thats what it was anyway, if my pc is broke this close to Doom 3.......well theres no accounting for what id do!

It can fry the pc totally but the strike would want to be very close to you, generally just the modem gets it.

And my moden (router) did
Thank god that was the only thing connected to mains and on during the storm.

heard aot of dundalk is out alright. lightning can mess stuff up

If the power was flicking on and off etc it's likely the main were surging.... never a god thing for a pc, aside from the phone line. If the power in the house is off and it comes back on, and there are loads of things powered up, well it is likely that the mais will surge as the is alot of power being drawn all at once.

Its unfortunate when thing like that happen, last April something similar happened to me, except I have a surge board and I always connect the phone line through that but while I was away at college my brother who basically just knows how to turn the dam computer on didn’t connect the phone line through the surge board. As a result I lost every thing except the HD FDD CDRW and the Monitor, (uncontrollable Rage :mad: ) . included was 2.5Ghz P4 and 512Mb Ram, But alls well that ends well and last june I built me a Mod box.
