Knoppix Questions.

Okay time for some noobie questions. Just messing around with Knoppix live cd. Two things I want to learn. First is how to save my configuration. I trying to place it on a 512mb usb 2.0 stick. It did not detect it on boot up just my floppy. I was wondering how do I mount a USB stick in Knoppix.

Secondly getting on the internet. I have a Eicon DIVA Pro 2.0 S/T PCI modem. When I go into knoppix-network/internet I put in the details of my isdn provider. The last part asks about MSN/EAZ I think its to do with the type of isdn service. What do I put in there?
Also the authentication tab should I select pap or another option.

Secondly in the hardware section it gives me a list of Eicon ISDN modems but none seem to match exactly. I'm at a loss at this. Going search the web for answers. If you come up with anything here let us know. Otherwise I might try the other machine with a standard 56k modem.

The EAZ/MSN is just your phone number.
If you use UTV make sure it's the one that's registered to your account and not the second one.

pap should be the right choice for most ISPs.

As you have declared yourself a newbie, I have to ask - how do you know your USB stick was not detected?

Tomk thats a good point. I was trying to save the settings but it only detected the floppy. I did not see a fusb detected in the knoppix-configure-save-knoppix configuration.

I go back in check to see if I have embarrased myself.

As for the MSN. Its the dial up phone number I assume. I only new of one. I did not know about a second one.

Nope, it's your own phone number.

There is a second number associated with your ISDN line as well,
but it doesn't really matter here.
It should be written on your phone bill.

I haven't used Knoppix recently, so I can't remember if it automounts USB storage or not. I'm assuming it doesn't, if you're not seeing it.

After booting it up with the USB stick connected, have a look through /var/log/messages for any mention of USB storage - if you see a line referring to sda, then it's been detected. Mount it as follows:

mkdir /mnt/usb (or whatever you want to call it)
    mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb

You should now be able to work with it.

I'll boot up Knoppix tomorrow to refresh my memory. Post anything interesting here in the meanwhile.

    OK, finally checked this out.

I've booted into Knoppix 3.4 with a USB disk attached. The disk has been detected, but not mounted. I entered the commands above, and the disk is now mounted.

    HTH.
