Can anyone recomend a game such as Age of empires where you build villages etc and an army etc that is really good. But minus magic, aliens or space. Something like Age of empires???

Age of Empires 2? Age of Mythology? Command and Conquer - I've never played but lots of people like it.

I think Rise Of Nations you might like. The game is made by the same people who made Age of Empires and Empire Earth.

Use the search function if your looking for some great RTS games, as threads more or less identicle to this have been posted many times, you may get some real good old RTS's there too. A few RTSs definately not to be without though are:
    Ground Control 1 + 2
Age of Empires 2 (and expansion)
    Rise of Nations
Command and Conquer: Red Alert (the origional red alert, RA2 was rather poo)

While I didnt think much of Rise of Nations, most people seem to love it, so you should try it and judge for yourself.

O, and if you look on Fileplanet you can get Ground Control ( the origional) for free download now, definately download that when you have the free bandwidth.

Empire Earth i liked, and empire earth 2 is in the works.

The Skirmish Ai on EE is one of the best ive played against it puts generals hard enemies to shame.

I also think warcraft 3 is the best rts around. But look out for Rome:total war, which is coming out soon :D

EE2 is 'Empires: dawn of the Modern World' and is already released, havent heard much about it, apparently its good enough from what I have heard, didnt think too much of EE, but yea the AI was well good, gave a good struggle.

Cossacks, Its a game just like AOE 1 and 2 in graphics and all. The best part is that its multiplayer mode is the best!. Wage battles with thousands of troops build a city and defend it!. THe AI fight very well, has everything that AOE II had and more. Try the demo out www.cossacks.com !

I found Rise of Nations kinda boring and repetitive. Although I liked what they were trying to do with the game.

I,d recommmend command and conquer red alert 2 ,its also got a great story to it ,great graphics excellent single player and mulitplayer modes ,also total annhilation is a great rts ,with challenging levels ,each more diificult than the last, particularly for single player mode ,but its not for sale retail you,d have to get it secondhand or thru auction sites.ra2 is never boring features great development of wepons tactics for the red alert series with the reds using physic weapons to capture your troops and tanks and turn them against you, which means the tank rush strategy is nullified.

I liked Rise Of Nations so much that i bought the expansion game on friday. The game is not for everone but i just love it. Its a fast game most games on line are over in 30mins which i like. I dont want game to go on for hours i dont have all day.

Rise Of Nations was a massive game. It seemed to be a little overwhelming for me so i used to limit it to the gunpowder age or something...I really liked the musket smoke and stuff. Its a good game but i can see why it would seem boring. For a microsoft rts it really chugged ram when you advance to the modern age with nukes and bombs going off. Graphics were not even that hot...

For something new Perimeter is excellent but can make an fx53 with a 6800Ultra lag on max settings with alot of units on screen

Nonetheless an essential game for RTS fans

I played Perimeter for a while, good ideas behind it, but I thought it was kinda poo, didnt like it much really. I got 'Kohan 2' today, and so far, wow, what a game, excellent, I advise you all get at least the demo of it (its on the front page of fileplanet), it really is a superb game from what I have seen.
