What a great run by Maria in Belgium tonight, gaining the 5k 'A' standard. What a dream come true for her.

Good to see multiple Irish athletes performing well in a top class meet. Nice to see Rob Daly running in the 400. If our newly emerging sprinters are to take their place on the world stage, they need to get more exposure in meets like this

McCambridge has been included in the team for Athens.

    From RTÉ Sport.
Maria McCambridge has been added to the Irish team travelling to the Olympic Games in Athens this summer.

McCambridge, who recently made it to the world championships final, made a personal appeal to the president of the Olympic Council of Ireland, Pat Hickey,

The athlete had achieved the A standard for the 5,000 metres in Belgium last weekend, but this was after the deadline of 20th July set by the OCI but McCambridge was able to convince the OCI that she had been unable to find a quality 5,000 metre event before the deadline.

Ireland will now be bringing fifteen track and field athletes to the Games.

Pretty sad that she had to make a personal appeal, OCI sadly does not seem to be concerned about what is best for the consituent sports which they are charged to support.

Intereesting that BBC seems to do a better job covering Irish Athletics then many of the Irish media outlets:
