I'm looking for a band, i've been playing for a few years now, and feel i am at the stage where i need a band to bitch at me so i can improve some more. My influences are wide and ranging, and include such great musicians as:...

Muse, Radiohead, Mogwai, Stereophonics, Aslan, Smashing Pumpkins, Blur, Dave Matthews Band, Goo Goo Dolls, the strokes, The Shins and many more :p

I'm in the rathfanham area, 18 yrs old, starting collage in september. and i'm a guy :p

And you play what? Guitar I presume. Don't suppose you sing too?

Lol, the most important thing to mention, and i forgot to mention it.

    I play guitar.

As for singing, the most i'd be able to do would be a little bit of backing, without some serious voice work. Ino ther words, i suck at singing.

Actually, I might be able to help you. Do you play mostly rhythm or lead? Or a mix of both? I'm in a band at the moment. We're mostly looking for a singer, but the guitarist and I both would like another guitar in the band.

I do both a bit. I'd be at the level of being able to play "Hideaway" by john mayall with a bit of practice (i can play 90% of it perfectly, everything up to the 2:10-2:35min mark. There it gets a bit more tricky.), another more well known example is the solo in "dancing in the moonlight".

Rythm i'd be pretty good at. Palm muting needs a bit of work, but i can do it fairly well.

EDIT: I;m in discussion with "The World of Good" but i'm not sure how thats going to work out, i'm awaiting a reply from my PM.

    Nice hijack ;)
Erm, we're doing mostly rock stuff at the moment, Zep, Thin Lizzy,Ac/Dc with possibly some heavier stuff like Sabbath. Wouldn't go dead heavy Slayer style, but we don't want to be pidgeonholed into some kind of "Normal rock ONLY. No lighter, no heavier" mood.

That seems pretty good. You and our current guitarist sound around the same skill level so there wouldn't be a considerable talent gulf. Well, see how things work out with World of Good. We'll probably have the space for a bit. Talk to ya later

The last thing i want is to be the "extra" guitarist, that kinda mooches around doing nothing much. I did that for a few months before, and then left. Just be sure i won;t be that extra guy :p

Nah you wouldn't be extra. By the sounds of it you're the same level, if not better, than our current guy

Why has this thread turned into my thread all of a sudden? Whatever, more exposure for us. Sorry Mutant fruit ;) Well, what age are you and where abouts are you located?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,943 ✭✭✭Mutant_Fruit

@Waltons: ah sure its all good, the more the merrier

@roundcrisis: If the whole thing with The World of Good doesn't work out, and neither does this one, i'd definately be interested in a bit of jamming.

I'm away on my holidays tomorrow mornin at 9am, and i'll be back sometime on the 13th, so i'll be back in action bandwise then. Hopefully something will work out :)
