dont mean to put you down but losing to a portuguese team that got the luckiest run ever to win the CL last season in a pre-season friendly is hardly a good sign if a sign at all :)

I suppose they got a lucky run to win the UEFA cup too? They had a superb squad of players aswell as an excellent manager.

    As Eireboy said.. Silly chappie!!

Listened to the first 80 minutes on the LFC website.. Liverpool seemed to have played very well..

What exactly was lucky about it? Was it the 11 games unbeaten between match day 3 and the final or was or was it just the 3 clean sheets in both semi-finals and final?

Watched the game live last night. Was relatively poor tbh. Liverpool fielded an experimental defence for most of the game. Owen should have scored early on with an easy header. Cisse looked a lot better with his hair no longer bright white!

Riise was played at left hand side of midfield and got forward a lot and put in some useful crosses.

It didn't sound like a great game tbh but I'm glad we lost for the simple fact that it'll stop some fans getting the run of themselves thinking we're going to win the title this year after the last two results
It did sound like there was some good attacking play from both teams at times though...

Also, Benitez says he now might have to go into the transfer market again due to Smicer being out for the next six months:

some people that saw the match live said that liverpool were awful and played hoofball and porto completely dominated
that said it was a pre-season friendly with experimental player selection, better now than in the CL or league
hopefully benitez can sort out the problem and bring in some quality

It certainly didnt sound bad from the commentary.. Liverpool had at least 5/6/7 decent chances in the first half alone..

its meaningless and you cant judge liverpool by a friendly defeat. i hate seeing these threads about friendlies and loads of posts after them. they mean NOTHING and are only experiments in preparation for the real thing.

you cant analyze a friendly! full strength sides aren't playing and if they are they wont be taking it seriously.

pre-season is training, TRAINING not real matches, not competitions, nothing at stake.

Someone got out of the wrong side of bed..

It is perfectly reasonable to want to analyse a pre-season match and there is no problem doing so once you don't go over the top speculating on the future..

The Celtic result was quite positive and gave some sort of insight into what the future may hold for Liverpool. Same with the Porto game, but that all they were, one off matches. And you can't draw conclusions on one off matches unless something amazing happens.
