    does anyone know a site that lets you fill in a couple of band names and it will give you a list of similar artists?

    Not exactly what you're looking for, but it you look up a band or album on amazon.com it'll say people who bought this also bought such-and-such a thing.

    Don't know of any others....

    All Music Guide would be my choice mainly because that Music Plasma seemed to link bands that had nothing in common in my opinion (NIN and James????)
