Recording Using SB Extigy... (I Need Drivers!)

    Right, here be my conundrum:

I'm planning to record a fairly large demo (10 tracks or so) at home. I got all the gear I could (i.e. music equipment and recording equipment) through the laborious processes of "saving" and "begging / mooching"...

Anyhoo, I've got it all set up at home, but I've moved my Sound Blaster Extigy from my laptop to my more powerful desktop. Unfortunately, I've lost the CD that came with the Extigy because I am a blathering idiot.

The only legit drivers I can find online are "update" drivers. Creative themselves are being thoroughly unhelpful, twice pointing me at these drivers (which are useless to me) and finally telling me that I need to PURCHASE (!) a new CD off them. Not only is that a pain and expensive, but it's gonna take ages and I need to start recording soon.

So, does ANYONE have a copy of this disk? I'm not sure if I'm allowed ask that kind of thing, but I could really do with some help!

There'd be a pint in it for whoever pulls this thorn out of my foot.

And teaches me some better metaphors...

    Cheers Jammer.

I actually already sorted the problem: Somebody else replied and told me they were in the same situation and installing the update drivers actually does work.

It angers me that the Creative Labs staff told me those drivers DEFINITELY wouldn't work and that I had to purchase and installation CD from them.

So, I wrote back to the staff and told them I think "it's apalling that Creative Labs expect their customers to pay in this situation when the drivers for nearly all other model Sound Blaster are available". The point being that an extigy and it's CD are far more likely to be transported (and possibly lost) than the other models.

In fairness to the tech support guy, he actually said that he personally agreed with me. He also said he'd forward my mail onto somebody relevant, although I feel it'll be a while yet before you see my face on the side of every Creative Labs product :)
