I just got a Canon A300 at the weekend (Thanks Dad), and I've been taking a few shots, (BTW the camera is killer on batteries, I've gone through 4 sets so far!).

Well here's two of my favourite shots so far, (files are pretty big)

    Opinions?

To be honest, there's nothing spectacular about them, but keep taking pics & you will get better. that's the beauty of digital.

As the previous poster said, digital allows you to make mistakes and experiment easier than traditional film. A good way to develop an eye for a scene is to look at what the pros do. Don't necessarily emulate what they do, but studying them in detail will help you understand why a photograph "works".

Does the 300 take the 511 battery? If so you can get them for around 15 euro on the net and they are good for over 500 pics before recharge. Don't buy Canon ones, a ripoff. The noname brands are 100%.

It takes standard AA batteries. I need to get a recharge unit for it. Does anyone have any opinions on the unicharge (I think that's the name) one?

It's thee first time I've had a camera with the freedom to be creative so I'm gonna take the opportunity (sp?). Can anyone recommend photographers worth looking at to see how things are done?
I really liked the first picture above. I thought the lighting was great :)

get your self onto www.photo.net, look at the gallery of top photos, look at the portfolios of the guys there you like, keep an eye on the front page for featured portfolios and photo of the week. Keep an eye out for real life exhibitions and go to them!!

    etc etc

Have a look at the first item on this page. I got one and it is great. 7dayshop do good deals on extra rechargables too. I got 12 batteries at the same time as the charger. That way you will always be ready to shoot.

mAh is milliamps/hour. More is better obviously. Some really old ones we use for the tv remote are 600mah, don't know how high they go but we have the same charger & 2100mAh batteries and they last an acceptable amount of time on an a70 (i.e. no one has compained about them yet).

edit: this is 70p more expensive that the other charger+batteries but has 4x2300mAh instead of 4x2100mAh.

Cheers for the links guys. Photo.net is quite interesting (though the photo of the week isn't doing anything for me, toilets, I ask you?). I'll be giving the site much further scrutiny.
The 7dayshop.com website is down at the minute, I'll have to check back about those rechargables later. Really need to get them, another set a batteries gone today!
