    Hey all.

I always had a bit of an interest in photography. I think that most people do everytime they see an amazing photo.

I have a digital camera (Pentax Optio). Thing is, there doesnt really seem to be a lot of things that you can change to try and get different effects or different types of photos. Sure there is lots of options such as b&w, sepia etc... But to get some of the effects that can be got with proper slr's...?

Any ideas on how I might be able to funk around with settings/light etc. to get better pics? btw, I'm not even sure what type of pics I want, just not your typical ones!

Okay, so I have worded thing a little bit strangely. Too early tbh.

Amazing photo: I see them all the time. Sure there are plenty on the web.

"Proper" effects: Well, its not so much that. Its just that there is much more control with an slr. Aperature (sp?), film speed, shutter speed. Cant really do any of that with a digital. But I have still seen some amazing digital photography. I just have no idea how its done!

    Appologies for any vaugeness :D

A digital SLR can do all the effects a standard SLR can do, including setting the aperture to get the depth of field (focus) that seperates interesting photography from the flat "everything is in focus" type pictures you tend to get from cheap and cheerful cameras. (Digital or otherwise).

Hmmm, thats the thing, I dont have a dig slr. I have an Optio S. and with it I get the "everything in focus" look. :D

You cant do effectes with an automatic camera. You need a camera where you can switch settings like aperture and shutter speed. You need more info go to
