Why bother really...? SkySports will be showing two live games every weekend,PremPlus will be showing 2 and Setanta/RTE will be showing 1 so thats 5 out of a possible max of 9 so d pickings will be fairly small from the other four matchs as will the quality....(unless ur an Everton fan....:D:p :D:p:D:p  ...!

I was hoping to avoid Sky and the big money they charge, especially for the Premiership plus matches after you have already paid a subscription.

Also sky is bringing in the "football first" program which will show 50 mins of highlights of your tems games every week :-)

To hell with Sky is what I say!

You should look at getting yourself a motorised setup, say a 1metre (maybe 1.2) dish depending where in Ireland you are should be more than adequate, standard DiSEqC 1.2 motor, good quality lnb and a decent reciever with CI , id recommend a technomate reciever highly.

There is a lot of saturday games FTA, channels such as TV Sports Romania and Top Channel Albania were fantastic the last season for games. I dont know whther they will have the level of coverage they had last year though, will know soon enough though.

Also MBC2 (arabic afair) had premiership games FTA last season. If you go the route of official card for viewing say Canal+ NOR/SWE/FIN/DEN and Canal+ Sport you can expect to pay a fair chunk of cash for these the last time I looked. There are also Official cards you can get for the NOVA (greek I think) sports package. Again was costly I think.

There is also ART (arab radio and television) that showed premiership and all scottish and other leagues. There were some cheap cards for this knocking about afaik last season that were cheap but were from a dodgy batch if you will. You can get a lot from the FTA stations anyway but as I said before I dont know if there will be the choice of them available this season.

I have been interested in this kind of thing for a while now. What kind of money are we talking about for all this, Ronan|Raven?

On a site I was on recently they had a 1metre Gilbertine dish for 70euro, say an invacom 0.3db lnb for about 25-30euro, a motor suitable for the dish would cost about 89euro maybe less depending on where you source it, necessary good quality cable is about 80cent a metre afaik, a couple of f connectors are about 2 euro for four of them. A good reciever will generally set you back about 180euros. If you like messing about with things then you could get a dreambox satellite reciever (non hdd version) for that price or the Technomate 5500CI is also a good reciever for in or around that price mark. Also you need to allow a few euros for mounting bracket and pole.

Whole lot would come in under 450-

A patchable Samsung DSR9500 VIA CI is another very good receiver as it can run some very clever emulation software.

    patchable

Lets not go that road again, btw. there are much better boxes out there than the Samsung one.
I recently bought me the setup Ronan|Raven was referring to.
1.1m Triax dish (MBC2 works great), DiSEqC-Motor, Alu-bracket, 10m coax cable, 4 connectors + .5db LNB just under €200. Next week I'll add a Lemon 030 CI RF box (€150 incl. p&p) to my setup and wait relaxed for the season to kick off.
    All found on german e-bay.
Ah, and talking about pay-tv. The equivalent for Sky in Germany, Premiere, makes offers like that: Offer
where you get a free box (D-Box) an annual sub for one channel (Start), 3 month free Pr. sports and the chance to upgrade to PPV. For €50 extra you can purchase the first 17 matches of your fav. german team.
    Beat that, $ky with PL.

Hmmm that link for Premiere looks great. Thanks to being born in germany and having family there I might try order it. Will have to see how you activate the card if you indeed have to ala sky. for 49euro and a few subs for the rest of the year I wouldnt mind. Also gettign the free dbox would be nice! I can get it posted to my address there..

Well, first of all, you'll need a valid bank account over there. Secondly you have to have one of your folks to ring them (works only from within Germany)to activate the card. The rest like ordering films or Bundesliga matches you can work over the internet. Hope you get a Nokia D-Box2. ;););)
But if interested better be quick, this offer runs from last monday and last year's offer was over after only three days after high demand.

Apologies to lighthouse for drifting away from subject.

Well there is no FTA premiership games except NTV (turkey) It may be worth yer while looking for a 6 month ART card. Works out at about 15 euro PM afaik.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 673 ✭✭✭lighthouse

Where can you get them for that price?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,151 ✭✭✭Ronan|Raven

I was thinking in sterling, apologies :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 673 ✭✭✭lighthouse

Thats still cheap.Where can you get them at that price? Also what is the frequency and satellite of that Turkish station you mentioned?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,151 ✭✭✭Ronan|Raven

Was on a forum I was reading a while back, the offer could since have finished. NTV is on Turksat @ 42east. You would need a large size dish to have a hop of getting it id imagine as it is on the east beam. east beam footprint
