Right, I know what the error message means but I find it strange!

Yesterday I got DSL in my other house and decided to leave it on while I went to my other house.

That was yesterday and today when I came online (on my 56k) I noticed that my IRC was still running on my other pc.

After a bout an hour, it quit out with that message (Read error: Connection reset by peer), yet around 2 hrs after that, it rejoined!

Now the PC is in a locked room 8miles a way from my current location! How in gods name did it manage to rejoin?

If you shut down IRC without typing /quit, you get that message. Maybe someone was using your PC and shut it down, then restarted?

Another possiblity is that the DSL lost connectivity for a couple of hours. While the line was down IRC would be attempting to reconnect the whole time, until eventually the DSL reconnected and the IRC client was able to rejoin.

It could of been disconnected from irc, but not from the internet. Maybe there was some lag on the line, or the server it connected to went down. mIRC probably tried to reconnect for about 2 hours until it got back in.
