    i keep poetry
    instead of a diary
    within reach, beside the bed
    easy access thought-transference
    it keeps me company
    while you wander around inside my head

    and i'm left
    filled up with
    your unique complications
    once again

    they are stubborn, they linger
    they won't play pretend
    and i am left with my eyes stripped
    well aware of what all this could mean
    even when i'm telling you i don't comprehend

    in the enormity of possibility
    i am silently evaluating

    but my box of hearts
    has lost its lid again
    past contents oozing out
    all haphazard, spilling red

    while a part of me peeks inside your chest
    even though i don't want my gaze
    to graze your vulnerability
    just yet

    let you feel my self-imposed indecision
    so you can eventually react with justified derision
    you heart rate slowing even further

    initial feeling of lovely warm wonderment
    pinpricked
