creating a vcd..what software

    trying to make a vcd that will play-back on my dvd player

    have tried doing it converting it to mpeg with the "vcd" option on ulead video suite but will not play back on the dvd player

    have played vcds on tthe dvd player before

    anyone know any good software(free) to use that will do the job?

    was converting dv avi, to make a vcd from that


    ALSO.......... is it possible to make menus on VCDs?

    The VCD format encoded MPEG1s will need to be burned into a compliant VCD structure (ie other files and directories need to be present on CD). It won't work if you just put the MPEG1s on a disc.

    Non-free you could use Nero's VCD wizard (just import the MPEG1 files into the VCD template).

    Free: check out www.doom9.org (including the forums). There are a number of free tools under Windows and Linux which will do the trick.

    Menu wise I know you can have simple menus on SVCDs or if your DVD player can play them miniDVDs. Not sure about VCDs.

    Nero is probably the handiest for making VCD's, it lets you create menus for them aswell

    Agreed. Nero Express is the handiest way of doing it. Converts AVIs as well. Handy.
