Can anyone tell me why it is soooo difficult for college students to get a job in Dublin this summer? 2 months of job-hunting isn't healthy!

You need to lower your expectations a bit.

Immigration I suspect has taken all the low end jobs.
Can you not just go somewhere outside of Ireland like most students do?

    I don't have high expectations!

I would have gone away for a job, but I can't afford to after being on J1 last year.

Would you work in a fast food place? Spar/Centra? If not then your expectations are too high.
What course are you doing in college?

There are loads of jobs going in the city centre in shops and fast food places! It's only for two months, get a job in one of them.

do they know your a student? Its lously but say your looking for a full time job and then just leave when you have to go back to college.
At this stage in the year I can see why employers would be reculent to take on a student - they know you can only work for a month or two, and then they have to start the hiring process again. Its a pain in the ass for all concerned.

I agree with eth0, fast food places are always looking, walk in (pick a quiet time, morning or so) and ask to speak to a manager, offer to fill in the application on the spot and tell them you can start straight away, all going well they will start you the following week. Use your head, you don't have to lie, but don't point out to them that you are going back to college either.

    good luck!
