Nearly a full strength Liverpool team v's a very weak Celtic team. I just hope we (Celtic) don't get slaughtered.:(

McGeady's a bag of tricks BTW.:)

Not the worst Celtic team ever...

    The defence:

    Laursen-Valgaeran-Varga-Cuthbert

That is a division 2 defence. Varga is the only decent player in there but I don't think he'll cope with the waster's, Laursen and Valgaeren. Cuthbert is a teenager.

McGeady's passing is top class, nobody to help him out though.

Valgaeren and Laursen have at least shown they are **** before the season starts.

The club must now know we need money, especially to strengthen the back.

Hopefully Balde and Petrov come on for the second half. I can't stand any more of this.

We came to the US thinking we have to replace Larsson but we go home with about 3 defenders and a midfielder to buy. We could survive a season with Sutton, Hartson (lazy git), Malony, Beattie and McGeady up front but we won't survive with our shambolic defence.

can you say bye bye diao??

Yup, not only did he give away the penalty but he was lucky another one wasn't given against him within a minute with another stupid challenge:rolleyes:

Well done the 'pool anyway, I know it's only a friendly but they seemed to play really well. Encouraging stuff for the coming season.

I think Celtic were missing O'Neill big time, they didn't have a great side out either.

I never read too much into pre-season games, its just about getting match fit really.

I have seen descriptions of Riise's, Owen's and Henchoz's birthday, but not Cisse's two goals. Presumably they were tap-ins, but can anyone who saw them provide a brief description please

Cisse at the double as Reds hit five

New £14m signing Djibril Cisse scored twice as Liverpool beat Celtic 5-1 in their ChampionsWorld Series friendly in East Hartford, Connecticut.

The Frenchman exploited Celtic's dodgy defence as Martin O'Neill's men crashed to their second consecutive tour defeat.

Michael Owen, John Arne Riise and Stephane Henchoz also helped themselves to goals in the Rentschler Field while Craig Beattie added to his weekend double against Chelsea with a consolation for Celtic.

Liverpool went ahead as early as the fourth minute. Dietmar Hamann knocked a free-kick square, after Joos Valgaeren had fouled Igor Biscan, for Riise to run onto and blast a left-foot rocket home from 25 yards.

The Reds doubled their lead in the 17th minute after more shaky defending by the Hoops.

Riise lobbed the ball over the top of a flat-footed Valgaeren and Owen poked the ball over the advancing David Marshall and under the post from just outside the box.

Liverpool easily ripped the Celtic defence apart again in the 47th minute.

Another mistake was pounced upon and Florent Sinama-Pongolle played Cisse through but he crashed a stunning effort against the upright letting Celtic off.

But Cisse did then grab his first goal for the club in the 62nd minute. He played an intricate ball through to Danny Murphy who returned the ball into Cisse's path for the Frenchman to have the simplest of tap-ins.

Celtic's defence was in such a bad shape that Henchoz scored a freak goal in the 68th minute with a shot which bounced off the turf and looped over Marshall.

Beattie, after his double at the weekend, gave the Glasgow side a consolation in the 72nd minute from the spot after Salif Diao had brought down the youngster.

But Cisse notched his second of the night in the 76th minute when he received Murphy's pass and cut inside Stanislav Varga before firing low under Marshall.

thank you. Sounds good, but the caveat of preseason is included alongside the fact it sounds like a brutal celtic side. Now recall the last number 9 scored 2 on his competeive debut as well so hopefully thats not an omen

it wasnt his debut so we are ok on that one i hope!

From peoples brief comments things are already beginning to look up for Liverpool. Words such as controlling, passing and pass seem to be making appearances where they havn't done for a couple of seasons.

It's also good to see Riise back scoring. He was magnificent for Liverpool when he was playing well a couple of seasons ago.
