    Hi all

have an intel Celeron 1.7Ghz processor on this machine that might be overheatin if anyone knows how I can find out if that is the problem.

The machine comes on normally and after a couple of hours it turns off without shutting down windows. Its as if there has been a power cut or something.

Getting the machine to come back on is impossible

I have had it looked at in town by computer repair people who say it is not the power supply.

The processor is not overclocked it hasnt been touched since it was purchased over a year ago

    any help would be appreciated

Well you can test to see if it's overheating by downloading prime95. Google it. This program will stress your processor 100% bringing it up to it's max temp.

Also download motherboard monitor 5. MBM5. This reads your processor temps from the BIOS while in windows.

Your going to have to find out what the max temp for your celeron is too. That will be on intels site.

Run the torture test on prime 95 for about 15 mins and monitor the temp on mbm5.

    No problem.

No prime 95 won't do any damage.

Download cpu-z. This will give you information about all parts of your pc including your motherboard. All small handy programs.

Am going to try the prime95 now. MBM 5 was able to retrieve the information about the motherboard.

once again thanks for the help

    One more question.

What tempriture is normal for the motherboard. The alarm on MBM is set to go off at 70 degrees centigrade which I think is a little high should I set the alarm to go off at a lower tempriture

    ---EDIT---

Just an update I have installed the motherboard Monitoring programme and have taken the following screenshot of the minimum and maximum tempritures. According to the intel website the max tempriture for this chip is 76 degrees selcius but it does not say what the normal tempriture should be.

43 degrees looks a little high. guess it is time to get the heat sinc on the processor cleaned out.
