Hi, I'm currently ordering a pc minus monitor from Jes, had a look at their monitors too, not too bad but does anyone know of a better site for monitors, preferably TF's 17" upwards? , also, anyone got any preferences in models etc, principally for gaming & dvd's . Price range would max at 500. Would consider a crt despite the space loss if the spec as well as price really outshone the tft competition.

    Any suggestions?

    Cheers

To be honest, I don't think you'll get a good gaming TFT for that much.
You'll probably end up with a decent TFT screen that sucks at games and movies, and wasting 500 euro on a product you don't really want.

If I were you, I'd get a top of the range 19" CRT, like the Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 930SB, which is around 350-400. Or wait till I have more money, and get a good gaming TFT for around 900.

If games are your preference, then CRT is definitely the way to go. On the other hand if you're a casual gamer but spend a lot of time on the computer doing other things, then TFT is a good idea. The image is sharper, geometry is perfect, and there's very little strain on the eyes.

I don't know why people go on about the space issue, I mean, if you have the monitor on a desk, then unless your desk is only a few inches deep, you shouldn't really have a problem with a CRT monitor. I have a TFT and the only difference is that now I have a lot of useless space behind the monitor :)

You can always "hide" the cables behind the monitor, but that's about it.

you haven't seen my desk ;) . I was looking at the Pro 930SB , good reviews all round, maybe I should just think about upgrading my desk rather that the other way around ;).

    ebuyer.co.uk
expensive delivery, but could be worth it.

this one claims to be 14ms responce,
but does have 44 very highly rated reviews.
i'd look through all the reviews if i were you.

This is a very good monitor - I can personally vouch for it - and at this price an absolute steal. Link

The LG1710B is a nice monitor, myself and my brother both have one and it has 16 ms response time which means its decent for games, no ghosting as far as i can see. Decent contrast ratio... no bad points in my opinion. I know alot of people who have this monitor, at least 6 that i've been to lans with and i havent heard a complaint about it.
