Unlocking Codes

Im trying to unlock a phone (Sony T610) that i bought on the vodafone network to use it on O2 and someone told me its just a matter of putting in a code? is this true? and if so where can i get the codes kinda ran up a bill so cant ring vodafone to get it unlocked
