These should be champion! For anyone that's unfamiliar, blurb below. I like some of Atom's more downtempo electronic stuff but he excels himself with his Senor Coconut material 'specially with a full band.

SENOR COCONUT & His Orchestra Irish Dates
    Next Thursday, July 29th ’04
@ The Village, Wexford St, Dublin 2.

Now also LIVE in Cork – Next Friday, July 30th ‘04
@ The Half Moon Theatre, Cork.
(part of the Bulmers World Music Festival)

Señor Coconut is one of the many alter egos of the German-bred and Chilean-based, Uwe Schmidt, aka Atom Heart.

His special eight-piece live show features a Venezuelan vocalist, a Danish band playing vibes, upright bass, percussion, and horns, plus Atom Heart on samplers.

Their recent sell-out performances in Europe met with widespread critical-acclaim and even approval from Kraftwerk themselves (Kraftwerk's reclusive Florian Schneider also gave a rare interview alongside Señor).

Señor Coconut's 2000 ‘El Baile Aleman’ album is an innovative concept of Latin versions of Kraftwerk songs. Although credited to Señor Coconut y Su Conjunto, it was purely the work of Schmidt and three vocalists, who took the Kraftwerk machine ideal and tipped it on its head, putting in programmed cumbia, merengue, and salsa rhythms to flavor the Teutonic stew.

He can also count David Bowie among his fans (he invited Schmidt to perform shows at the 2002 Bowie-curated Meltdown Festival in London’s South Bank including one alongside the Yeah Yeah Yeahs).

Live Tracks: 'Smoke on the Water' [Cha-Cha-Cha], 'Negra Mi Cha Cha Cha' [Cha-Cha-Cha], 'Riders on the Storm' [Merengue], 'Smooth Operator', 'Rey de las Galletas' [Guaguanco], 'Oxygene', 'Blue Eyes' [Bolero], 'Marcas de Machin' [Cha-Cha Cha], 'Beat It' [Merengue], 'Electrolatino', 'Showroom Dummies',
'Trans Europe Express', 'Robots', 'Neon Lights', 'Autobahn', 'Homecomputer', 'Tour De France', 'Man machine', 'Music Non Stop' and more...

Schmidt has recorded albums under a multitude of psuedonyms such as LB, Geez 'n' Gosh, Eric Satin, Los Samplers, Atom and Tea Time, and of course, Señor Coconut. Most of his musical output is released on his own Rather Interesting Records label.

His most recent album, last summer’s ‘Fiesta Songs’, includes his own take on Michael Jackson's ‘Beat It’, Deep Purple's ‘Smoke on the Water’, and The Doors' ‘Riders on the Storm’.

His new 'Beat It' EP is due for release at the end of July.
