External HD Question

    Stupid question time... I'm looking at getting an external HD from Komplett. The blurb for the drive mentions one touch backup, automated backups etc. I assume you can access this drive as a normal drive in explorer?

    (told you it was a stupid question)

    Yes. It will mount as a removable hard drive over either Firewire or USB2.0, the same way that a USB Memory Key would work.

    If that is the Maxtor one that you are looking at then I have the 250GB model and it is great for storing downloaded stuff.

    On a related note...

    I have an older Maxtor 80Gb external HDD (USB2) - do you know if you can simply replace the internal HDD with a bigger one?
    I'd have thought it's possible as I've seen IDE <-> USB changers for sale - but I'd like to know for sure before I try it!

    AFAIK, the drive inside is just a standard DiamondMax Plus9. You could try googling for information.

    As said google first.
    It's not sold as a hard drive enclosure, it's an external hardrive so it may be wired directly to the USB/firewire port, no IDE connection.
