a poem to my brother

after fighting a long period of recession my brother Barry finally left my family last spring. This is a poem i've been trying to write since then.

Without a word, without even a whisper
I waited, every day, for the slightest sign, wiped your brow
people need wisps to hang on to,
even at times, and with people, like these

Much I could have said to him,
you can't imagine how deep my bond with him

After all we've been through, to end like this.
Sympathy? No amount can possibly sum all we've received
Soul? maybe, heaven knows how much I hope so

Whatever may come in this world or the next,
I know you will always be somewhere
There in the corner, or looking over our mother with timid eyes
Here beside me as I write this...

You never gave up, even when your body did,
only the light in your eyes
under lids of red, tear stained skin
running all over your body, which failed you

Free at last, perhaps, or somewhere sweet
Ah yes I can see your face in my mind, awash with joy
counting the hours till we're reunited
Every one of us feeling the same

I'm no poetry critic but I know what I likes and, unlike many of the poems I've read here, I really like that one.

I am so very very sorry for your loss, the poem is quite touching...nearly brought a tear to the eye.
