Health monitoring under Linux

I'm looking into using SNMP to do more than just create nice graphs in MRTG.
I've got a few SCSi machines, but to my knowledge scsi drives don't have the S.M.A.R.T. failure Early warning chip in them (only IDE drives?).
Is there any way to monitor the physical health of scsi drives?

The machines are generally Dell 2650s, one or two Sun machines and a few no-name boxen.
Afaik Dell haven't released source to the closed-IP HW Monitoring chip (made by Adaptec) that is used in the 2650s.
    Which sucks.
Does anyone know any applications (preferably .debs) for gathering server health info that could be used through SNMP? (1 variable input, 1 variable output)
