a mate of mine uses one to talk to his missus in the states and its definitely the best webcam/mic ive seen in action unless you are going to use a fully blown camcorder to stream the video (prob work out about the same), plus the isight looks savage

worth it man... you get record with it in iMovie as well... the quality is unbelievable...

when the next ichat comes out, it will be even better quality with the new codecs... I use it with my 15-inch PB and there is only a teeny tiny lag, 30FPS... class.

    Several answers:

    Yep, got one

Yep, can use it as a wired-to-the-mac camcorder (my kids love it)

    Yep, it's a pukka webcam

    Yep, it's way cool looking

Last but not least - dunno what speed connection you have, but iChat AV can be forced to work over 64k ISDN, despite Apple stating you need 100k+. I've videoconferenced with lucky broadband-enabled gits in the UK over my barely-there ISDN connection and it works. Blocky video for sure, and you can't do anything else at the same time, but it works.

The iSight works as a web-cam with Yahoo Messenger. There's no sound there. It's awesomely cool for actual conferencing with iChat though. You can also have one-way chats with people on iChat. My friend in Portland has an older Mac without a microphone; I can set up a one-way chat with her and she can see and hear me but she has to send text responses back. When she gets her iSight it will be way cool. :D
