Sharkoon Fans

I just bought 4 120x120x25mm sharkoon fans (one of em is broken ) and they have a three pin plug, with a molex adapter.

I'm just wondering which would supply more power to the fan, the 3pin or the molex (4pin). And are they both 12volt?

Not sure what you mean by more power but its safest to use the 4pin connector as theres a chance of burning out the little motherboard connectors if it tried to draw too much power (rare but happens).

I would definetly use the 4pin molex connector.............

its just on the back of the box it says "2.16watt, 1000rpm" and "3.6watt, 2400rpm".

I'm not sure how to give it more/less power to control the RPM. Ideally i'd have it about 3watt.

Shouldnt they come with a variable resistor? A little device that you pop into one of the PCI slots to change the power getting to it..... im pretty sure thats what they mean.

The fan will try to run at full speed if its pluged into the mobo or 4 pin molex unless you have it adjusted down.

i'd run it off the mobo to vary the revs,
because if you use the molex it will run at full pelt,
and will be noisy as fuk.

that is unless you want to rewire the molex,
    which easily done.

its on the molex, and is running "at full pelt", but it seems awfully slow. I would have assumed that at 2400RPM there would be a nice breeze coming off the fan, but there doesn't seem to be much of a breeze.

However, they are completely silent, which is a good thing. I'm just really disappointed in the amount of airflow i'm getting from them. I have an old 80mm fan that seems to give three or four times the airflow, but is loud as fcuk.

The 120mm fan @2400rpm is prob moving roughly the same ammount of air as say the noisey 80mm fan except its spread out over a 120mm area as apposed to a more confined 80mm one. The Air might be moving slower but theres more of it moving slower if you get what i mean. Your fan might be running slower than this from what youve described.

If you have a PSU with a fan only connector this might be a problem as it undervolts the fans so for an already quiet one it will slow it down way too much. Try plugging it into a regular connector (and have the trailing end plug into a hard drive so the power runs through)........ just a thought but at 2400rpm you should be able to hear it and it should be noticable air flow.
