I got this Arctic Silver Ceramique thermal grease the other day and as you'd epect i put it onto the cpu. Now my cpu is running at 27 degress celsius under load. I have a thermaltake volcano 7+ as a cpu cooler, but 27 degrees that can't be right. Is my thermal diode can bust?

What speed is your CPU running? Im pretty sure that isint right unless your running a very underclocked chip and the Volcano7 is flying. ........ohh just as a btw how do you put up with the noise of that flipin thing its amazing how another Cooler can cool the CPU silently while that yolk screams (think it adjusts speed based on case temps and not CPU).

Its an 1800+ cpu but it is running only at an fsb of 100 which results in the clock running at 1150 instead of 1534. My volcano is only spinning at 3000rpm si its actually very quiet. Even when it spinnin at 3500 i still find it quite quiet. The sound is probably being drowned out tho by other stuff in my pc. forgot to mention before i put on the ceramique thermal grease the cpu was running at around 36degrees

Firstly change your FSB to 133mhz so the CPU is running at the correct speed. Then have a look at the temps...... there still a little too low but might get more realistic with the speed increase.

The Volcano 7 isint quiet unless it gets to 2000rpm anything above that and its dreadfull..... i used to think it was grand aswell and it didnt bother me that much but my god you would see some change with a new CPU heatsink, and a couple of new case fans...... once you go quiet you wont go back.

Would you ever think about geting it quiet?

the thing is my pc is a bet messed up and i cant run at an fsb of 133!!!. Dont ask me way. Hours spent searching on the net and numourous posts on the boards and still nothing. If you saw my pc you'd realise why my cpu fan doesn;t make much noise. i have 6 hard drives 2 optical drives 3 case fans and futhermuckin huge gpu cooler and it all just drains out everything else. I am thinkin of gettin a volcano 12+ silent boost tho. just lookin at komplett at them at the mo
