as title really, i got 3g iPod 20gig in perfect nick bought in december and has been in a exo iskin since day one.

how much would i expect to sell it for?

i'm only upgrading for the 40gig model as 20gig doesn't do me no more.

How much do you think you could realistically get?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

    maybe about 250-300?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,115 ✭✭✭Pacifico

Yeah i was thinking about this also. You'd probably get more from the buy and sell.

The new one looks quite nice. Apple might set up some sort of trade/upgrade option??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

also to mention it comes with a dock, case, headphones, remote, firewire connection and it has been looked after like a baby.

also i have pcworld insurance on it but i don't know if i can transfer it to new owner if i sell it.

the insurance covers 1 years theft (up sometime in december) and 5 years parts.

Its the same as the iPod mini. Its both a Click wheel and a touch wheel :) Works very nice

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

so it moves like the old 2nd gen ipod wheels aswell as being touch sensitive at the menu, forward, backward and play/stop buttons?

any advances on the price part of my post?

    i honestly don't know what it's worth

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,943 ✭✭✭Mutant_Fruit

i'd trade you a first gen Creative Zen 20gb (usb1 and firewire) and 70euro.

Hell, i'd even leave the music on it :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

well if i'm upgrading to the 4th gen ipod 40gig i think i'd need some money lol

ohh and plus i won't be selling until iskin bring out a case for the new ipods

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,115 ✭✭✭Pacifico

$400 for a 40 gig model isn't that bad. Probably be the same price in Euro though. Still an improvement on €550

Regarding your price i'd say 320 or there abouts if its in Perfect condition. Sell it quick though before the 4Th Gen comes out :p

ps Do you like that iSkin Exo? Had a Evo for a while. Couldn't stand it..

Edit: Buy and Sell gives very mixed prices! Linky

Are you sure that they (they, as in the powers that be) won't try to stick you with vat or is it a "gift"?

easily solved as my brother can take it home when he's coming home later in the year.

i hate when apple overcharge ireland/uk/europe compared to the states.

Yo cremo. Do you have that fabric sleeve type case for the ipod? Id be interested in taking that off your hands if you have it. Not sure if it comes with it but its not the solid black one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

yes i do have it but atm i'm still trying to decide whether the sell or not the insurance would up the price factor a bit if i could transfer it

    sigh.....here we go again
can ppl not go one thread about an ipod without mentioning a damn iriver. Yes we no about it. No we STILL dont care....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭Thumper Long

    ipod is god

the new 4th gen is the way forward, the 3g skins will fit the new one as there is only a mm or so in the dimensions, main diff is the new wheel and the 12 hour battery life

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

i know the 3g skins will fit but it the hole cut in the skin won't match up to the wheel of the 4th gen ipod as they've moved the wheel up since they got rid of the menu/play/forward/back buttons

What is the purpose of this post? My post is to inform the thread starter that there is a technically better product for cheaper. There is no argument involved. It's better, it's cheaper. They are the facts.

i have used the iriver before and it's a brick compared to the ipod and i prefer the ipod controls.

Ok, whoever wrote this article for PC magazine USA, has tested the lot.

    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1623828,00.asp

"Our conclusion: While the iPod still delivers the most intuitive, elegant user interface, the best all-around player in the 20GB-plus class is the iRiver H140. (The iPod Mini is still our Editors' Choice if you want a smaller player and can do with less capacity.)"

He picks IHP-140 as the best. I'm only trying to point the thread starter in the right direction. Not to be influenced by advertising etc.

PLEASE NOTE: this review was done with the IHP's current firmware. So it still came out top even though it doesn't have things like on the fly playlists, delete, gapless playback that some of the other players have. Fortunately, these are going to be added to the next firmware due out very soon amongst other additions:

    º H100 beginning of aug.

    1. File delete
    2. Format (from iHP)
    3. playback speed controller
    4. Gapless playback.
    5. support unicode for DB
    6. support ogg files for DB
    7. Hebrew support
    8. multi TEXT folder(under text folder)
    9. improvement of SHUFFLE
    10. EXÎÃÀ¸·Î ID3 TAG°¡ ³ª¿À´Â ¹®Á¦ °³¼± (MP3GAIN »ç¿ë½Ã ³ªÅ¸³ª´Â ¹®Á¦ ÇØ°á)
    11. Auto.lyrics(6line)
    12. PLAYLIST¿¡¼_ NAVI½Ã ¸®¸ðÄÜ ¾×Á€ Ç¥½Ã ¹ö±× ¼öÁ€
    13. On the go play list
    14. fix bug on radio
    15. reduced noise while using with remote
    16. H100 external battery support
    17. fixed Japanese filename support

    ¢º H100 2nd firmware - october

    1. volume controller for voice recorder
    2. instant voice record
    3. MONO recording
    4. improved recoding func.
    5. SAD support
    6. AUTO SYNC
    7. Korean menu / H100 external battery support

firstly, apple will very unlikely set up a trade program for iPods.

    also, is you 20 gigger 2G or 3G?? if 2G... expect to get 150-200, 3G... 250-280...

I have a 3G 40G and only looking for 380 and only got two buyers...

PS. with the recent release of 4G ipods, you're out of luck with expecting to get a decent price for your 20GB iPod TBH. the new 20GB is only 339, RRP. non-educational.

people who insist on buying an iRiver over an iPod are cheap & Petty IMO. the iRiver sucks and will never be considered a design classic... they are another flash in the pan product... to everyone considering an iRiver or any other non-apple portable Mp3 player, get some taste people!!

well, what is better is a subjective matter. is there any chance that the extra 'features' of the iRiver would have a detrimental effect on the useability of the product? and also, what is cheaper is also relative matter.

a €100 difference between the two products would cause some people to balk at the asking price, however, i know the extra price gives me a better product, so i don't complain...

also, you can't put a price on cool, and that is something that many techies don't understand.

It looks like the marketing works. it reminds me of the Simpsons episode with Malibu Stacey "Look, she's got a NEW HAT!"

I've used both. The iRiver is a beauty. Some things it has the iPod doesn't

    Better battery life.
The ability to access your mp3s properly named and in a directory structure as a USB drive.
    Radio.
    A remote with the device.
    Optical ports.
    Ogg support.
    voice recording.

My next purchase is an iRiver ihp-140. I've done a lot of research on this and compared both products at length. It's not an isue of cost. If I genuinely felt the iPod was superior I'd but it.

you'll never be cool with an iRiver though.

hehehe... that'll do pig, that'll do

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21 chanchan

oh and BTW... why bother with all the research??

all those peripheral features are exactly that, PERIPHERAL!! Get down to the matter at hand, the music, ease-of-use, cool factor... iPod wins hands down...

I don't care what you say, cool does come into it... or we'd all be running around with Dell DJ's or something...

I mean, wouldn't you prefer something iconic and excellent at what it does than a run of the mill wannabe?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 284 ✭✭Zakalwe

The Dell DJ is an inferior product features wise. Cool does not enter into it. I'll take a product with better features anyday. I also think the interface and look of the iRiver is damn good. The casing is a hell of a lot more robust than the scratch magnet the iPod comes with.

As far as cool goes. Most mainstream crap that's considered cool is crap. Alloys on a Micra, the contents of the top 100 chart, **** clothes with a label, watery beer that has good advertising.

I'll take good taste over "cool" any day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

My god. You'd actually buy something just to look cool? You must be lacking in something else if you need an ipod to make up for it.

Personally I went for the IHP because, it's better and... it's cheaper... and since music is my main thing (i listen to about 15 hours of music per 24 hours) I got it, because, it is better for what it is. A music player. Better sound etc.

    So basically.

I bought the IHP-140 because it is:

    BETTER

    and

    CHEAPER.

Makes sense. Personally I don't think my Nissan Micra is the ****. It's a lil green ugly car. It's a 96 and I probably look like an oul one driving it round. However it's the best 1litre car you can get for performance and reliability. Which is why I got it. The funny thing is however, when I bought it 2nd hand, there were already alloys on it.. ooooh yeah baby!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

can we just agree on this.

If you want to look "cool and hip", mainstream style and have cash to waste. Go for Ipod.

If you want the best hard drive based mp3/ogg player out there, go for IHP.

    That's basically our argument.

How true, EVERY single iPod related thread turn out like this

    iRiver owners are annoying :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

just to rub salt in the wound before the thread is locked

the iriver from amazon.co.uk is £269 which is €402
    Here

where as the ipod 4th gen 40gig from apple's USA site is $399 which is €325 euros.

now considering my brother is coming home from the states soon i can get the 40gig ipod €77 cheaper than an iriver from amazon which delivery will jack up price even more.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21 chanchan

    well said man, well said.

indeed, you are correct about the prices... how odd! hehe

to whoever get an iRiver... consider that it will forever live in the annals of also-rans. It will never be more than a blip on the radar and at best, possibly an 'alternative' to an iPod, but will never best iPod.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Ok, for a start "i'm only upgrading for the 40gig model as 20gig doesn't do me no more" seems to me like you are looking to buy a new player. That is the reason I suggested IHP.

IHP 140 is cheaper than 40G ipod on amazon.com. $0.05 cheaper.
IHP 140 is cheaper than 40G ipod on amazon.co.uk. £81 cheaper.

IHP 140 is cheaper than IPOD. IHP 140 is better than IPOD.
IPOD is cooler looking to the majority of people.

IPOD is fashion, IHP is style.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21 chanchan

    HAHAHAHHAHAHA:p :p:p:):):D:D

IHP is style?!?!?!?! best post i have read all day. hahahahHAHAHAHA. well done...

Fashion meaning that it's in fashion. Like the way people wear the sweat bands on their wrists and people wore their caps facing the sky for a while. It's what's in but it's not necessarily good.

    The IHP is definitely good.

I'm selling my IHP right away. The box for the IHP aint that great. Nothing like that. So like, if I had a girl (female of the human species) in my room and she saw the lil black box, would she jump on me? I'm unfamiliar with girls. When they see my IHP they are really turned off. Do girls realllyyy have no willies?
