    Hello.
I just got a new PC with a dvd+rw built in
How do i copy dvd movies straight to a blank dvd?
the software built in doesn;t let me. I'm not familiar with this kind of stuff at all, that's why I seem like such an idiot.

    Thanks,.

No offence but this thread must come up at least once a week. Try doing a search at the bottom of the page. Loads of good info has been posted on the subject already.

dvdshrink + burnatonce(with dvd plugin) is imho one of the easiest ways to get started.

on a side note does anyone know if dvdxcopy is still available free. I downloaded it last year free for a mate but now i can only find the new pay version

DVD+R is more compatible as it has "Bitsetting", which means no player will reject the disc if the disc is set to appear as a DVD-Rom.

The only reason a bitsetted DVD+R would not play, would be if the laser in the DVD player wasn't good. Both DVD+R and DVD-R have about 80% of the reflectivity of a normal DVD disc, some brands are better than others.

A good DVD+R (with bitsetting) is more compatible than a DVD-R. But both of them have about 90%+ compatibility to begin with...

And DVDShrink is a good beginners app, it offers ease of use, but not that good quality once you go over 75% compression. When you want to do great quality backups, with minimum effort (only a bit of set-up required, and thats easy), use DVD Rebuilder. Check out www.doom9.org for more info.
