    Hey

I just built a new machine and it's all working fine except the floppy drive. As far as I can see I have the power and IDE connections in correctly but the floppy drive busy light is on continually as if it is reading a disk and when in insert a disk it won't read it at all.The floppy drive and the floppy drive controller are appearing error free in the windows device manager.

just wondering if anyone knows anything i could do

    Thanks

Check in the BIOS, if whats ok make sure the cable is on the right way, if thats not it the floppy of feck
But who uses floppys now a day anyway, just dump it and use the cd burner

Same thing happened to me. Try switching the ide cable around i.e. put the end thats in your motherboard into your floppy. Worked for me!

the cable is in the wrong way
ie. pin 1 is on the wrong side

Pin 1 is the edge of the cable with the red stripe. There is a twist in the cable for some archane reason and it does matter which end of the cable goes to the FDD. Pin 1 should also be marked on FDD and M/B - sometimes it's the opposite way round to the HDD cables..

warning - if you stick a floppy in the drive it will get corrupted .

Yep data cable is almost certainly wrong way around ....and BTW the data cable to the floppy isn't an IDE cable.
