Night Slashers on Mame

Does anyone know if any version of Mame currently works for this game? I use Mame32 and I've got v083b (I've previously tried with v081b, v079b and I think v067b), but I get "this rom has protection which is not fully emulated" as an error. It passes the audit ok, but still comes up as not working. If I run it, I get the standart start-up screens (RAM tests, etc) but it just bails out on a black screen, where it stays until I hit escape to come back to the normal mame screen. The file in question is nslashers.zip. Any help would be much appreciated - I've been itching to play this game for ages and it's frustrating knowing that I have it, but can't get it to run....

Edit: sorry, edited to add a couple more details - I'm running win2k, currently up-to-date on service packs etc, shouldn't be any AV software interfering with it or anything/

(On a separate note, since I seem to recall mentioning it before...I have finally obtained a copy of Mutant Fighter and will be testing it tonight - I'll post up if it works, since it was a great, although under-rated, game)

without being smart, the status of this game is "Not Working" so I guess...its not working and there is nothing you can do about it, unless you crack the protection

Well, yes, but on the other hand, you'll note I'm asking if there's any previous versions of MAME it worked under that people know of, given that new MAME releases have occasionally been known to relegate working roms to non-working.

If you read Mameinfo or history using mame32 you'll see there isn't.

Fysh there are hacked versions of mame that run games like that , but i cant link to them as there are roms on the page they on.
